Socotra, also I wrote down Socotra, the Arab Suquṭrā, island in the Indian Ocean of about 210 miles (340 km) to the southeast from Yemen to which it belongs. The biggest of several islands stretching in east direction from the Horn of Africa it has an area about 1.400 square miles (3.600 square kilometers). Mountains of Hajīr (Hajhir) occupy internal regions of Sokotry with narrow coastal plains in the north and wider plain in the south. On the southwest and the West the smaller islands of Samḥah and Darzah, the called al-Ikhwān ("Brothers"), and ʿAbd al-Kūrī, all from which also belong to Yemen. Islands stand on coral coast and, perhaps, once were connected with the African and Arab continents. Flora Sokotry includes several known versions, among them myrrhfrankincense and a tree there are dragon's blood. In acknowledgement of his excellent life of plants and animals the archipelago was defined the UNESCO world heritage site in 2008.

The name of Socotra is tracked to Sanskrit dvipa-sakhadara, "island residence of happiness". The island is mentioned in various legends. Inhabitants long were Christians, but that religion disappeared from the island in the 17th century. Socotra sultans of Mahra of southeast Yemen long operated. Their rule about Socotra was interrupted with the Portuguese occupation between 1507 and 1511. In 1834 the British tried and didn't buy the island; in the 1880th, however, the sultan accepted the British protection for all sultanate. The sultanate ended in 1967 when Socotra became a part of independent Southern Yemen, and later, united Yemen.

The island was wiped out in November, 2015 when it was struck with two strong cyclones only days separately. With Yemen covered by civil war, the island relied on simplification at other countries, especially the United Arab Emirates which create military base on the island partially subsequently to support separatist Southern Transitional Council (STC) in the southern Yemen. After STC began to throw down a challenge to world-wide recognized government in Aden, its former lane against Houthis in civil war, Socotra became the battlefield between these two fractions in 2020.

Sedentary inhabitants of Socotra are busy with fishing, diving of pearls and small agriculture. Nomads keep in an interior cows and other animals and grow up some grain crops. Export of the island is included by melted butter (the explained oil), fish and aroma. The capital and the biggest city - Hadīboh (Tamrida) on the Northern coast.
